The Science Behind Our Chairs
A well-fitted riser recliner can help support posture, comfort and everyday independence. By matching the chair to the person, we aim to reduce pressure points, encourage a better sitting position and make sitting, reclining and standing easier.
Supports Circulation
Raising the legs can help encourage blood flow and may help reduce swelling in the lower limbs.
Encourages Better Posture
The right seat height, depth, width and back support can help keep the body better aligned, reducing slouching and improving comfort.
Helps Reduce Strain When Standing
The rise function gently assists the user from sitting to standing, helping reduce effort through the knees, wrists, arms and hips.
Supports Breathing Comfort
A supportive upright or gently reclined position can feel more comfortable than sitting slouched.
Designed Around the Individual
Everyone sits differently, so we match the chair to the person's height, posture, mobility and daily routine.
What Our Customers Say
Real feedback from people who found the right chair for their needs.
Clive Ross
Retired Occupational Therapist · Google Review
"As a retired Occupational Therapist I've had a great deal of experience assessing the seating needs of people with complex disabilities.
When I developed a painful back condition myself I went in search of a chair to meet my own needs, but drew a blank. Having tried numerous riser-recliners in mobility shops and furniture stores I'd pretty much resigned myself to continuing discomfort in my existing armchair. So thank goodness I happened upon The Comfort Workshop. It really lives up to its name!
The first chair that James recommended me to try at their well-stocked showroom felt instantly different. The upholstery was supportive but comfortable, and the dual motor allowed a great range of positioning to be obtained. I was especially in need of a comfortable 'tilt-in-space' position, without having to first lie flat which I found to be an issue with all chairs that I had tried elsewhere. The 'Contour' chair delivered exactly this position that I had been seeking.
James assisted me in tailoring the chair for my optimum comfort through recommendations regarding backrest and armrest type, and seating dimensions. At no time did I feel under any sales pressure. There was a vast range of fabrics from which to choose, and being prone to clumsiness I went for one that even ballpoint pen markings could be removed from with a damp cloth.
Throughout the assessment my wife (also a retired Occupational Therapist) was sat in a similar chair and she was so comfortable she decided she'd have one too!
I reckon purchase of two chairs for our personal use amounts to pretty comprehensive OT endorsement!"
